Comments CommentsYikes...first time I've ever used a snow guarantee.

Last night's snow report had no warning about today's conditions. This morning's snow report was only posted an hour before opening. Prognosis: no grooming and lots of wet snowmaking.

Guns had run on all open terrain all the way to opening. With the exception of the very top of Locke, the guns had put out a lot of wet snow and slush. Dangerous conditions with lots of bad wipe outs - skis would sink multiple inches into the slush and not turn. Even saw Gould skiers survival skiing through yellow slush snow near the bottom of Sunday Punch. Took one run on T2 and a top to bottom run on Sunday Punch and called it; fortunately the folks at the counter were issuing vouchers without much fuss.

When the snow cures, T2 may be set for the year, as there are some huge piles. On the far side, some manmade powder could be found, however from middle over to the guns, it was nasty (sink into the slush and not be able to turn).

Upper Sunday Punch was okay if hugging the trees generally, but anything middle over was also nasty. Mid station load still available.

Middle Sunday Punch had one or two stretches where one could make a few turns, however it soon transitioned to wet, yellow snow, not fully buried waterbars, and occasional rocks. Still not too much base leading back to the lifts.

Barker Quad will reportedly open tomorrow. Looks like everything will funnel into Lower Sunday Punch, as there as been zero snowmaking on any other lower mountain trails (apart from Right Stuff, which feeds into Lower Sunday Punch).

Looks like they have some other operational oversights...the road/walkway up from the parking to the lodge was icy/not sanded, bad enough that a food delivery truck was spinning out while trying to back up to the lodge, blocking the road for drivers and pedestrians (who were trying not to fall). Also noted a trash removal truck idling outside the lodge, as a company pickup truck had been parked in a no parking zone, blocking the dumpster.

Really wish they had either considered a different operational approach or else gave advance warning on the snow report, as it's a long drive to the River many of their skiers.
