Comments CommentsExpected to find soft snow and spring conditions today with the warm temperature and recent rain. However overall conditions today were firm and icy in spots. Temp at the summit was a bit chilly and it was a bit breezy.

Started from the Minuteman Lift. Ralph's Run, Challenger, Look Mom, and Hitchcock Trails were groomed but firm, and snow coverage was edge to edge. Hitchcock was the best in this area.

Next I went over to the Polar Express Quad. Upper Smith Walton had thin coverage and some icy spots on the head wall. Lower Smith was closed to the public for race training. Oxbow Chute and the Salamander Cutoff were in good shape. 10th Mountain had good coverage, but did have some icy spots. From the lift I saw several snow boarders wipe out, and one skier had to be taken down in a sled by Ski Patrol. Norm's way was closed, had no snow at all and several large patches of ice. Conifer Connection was in decent shape with good coverage, but did have some icy patches on the steeper section near Middle Balance Rock. Balance Rock and Middle Balance Rock skied well.

Crowds were thinner than expected today. Never waited more than a couple of chairs at the Polar Express. Some minor issues were observed at the Minuteman Express. It seems that the RFID gates are too close to the loading area. This lift serves less advanced terrain, and is popular with families with small children.
There's not much time for a family to regroup if one member has a delay at the RFID gate. This leads to missed chairs, and the lift had to be stopped several times.

Left at noon. The main parking Lot #1 was full, and they were now shuttling people in from Lot #3.
