Comments CommentsWe rolled the dice today with the weather and won. North Conway received more snow than the I-93 corridor, and blue skies started to break out at 8:30. The 5" in the snow report was accurate.

They groomed most of the novice and intermediate terrain after the bulk of the snow had fallen, but only did a few passes down three expert trails, leaving plenty of untouched wet powder.

Only three closed trails from the summit (Arlberg will be open as soon as the whales are pushed out; lower is open...I'm not sure if North Conway will be pushed out, as there are some communal whales visible, and East Slope hasn't been touched yet).

Kandahar, Rattlesnake, and Skimeister were all groomed and had nice buttery conditions throughout the morning. You could lay down an edge without cutting into any hardpack or boilerplate. Hurricane was ungroomed...a little choppy up top, but pretty nice thereafter in the morning.
Middle was decent and still not particularly skied off by the afternoon. Ledges had not been groomed but was okay. Koessler was also ungroomed...the steeps were fun and soft in the sun. Schneider to Artist Falls was also ungroomed and probably the most variable of the bunch. East Slope/Lower Schneider/Gibson Pitch were closed. Easy Street was groomed and good, as were the lower mountain easy trails.

Though the winds picked up throughout the day, there were no lifts on wind hold. The wet snow was crusting over as temperatures dropped in the afternoon, keeping it from blowing away...should groom out nicely. No lift lines. Appreciated how they visually check tickets rather than have scanners. Friendly employees.
Very nice day of skiing.
