Comments CommentsNo New Year's lull this morning. Busy from opening onward. Looks like they had virtually all snow here, though I didn't see the 14" I heard they claimed. It did snow throughout the day today though.

Despite being told earlier in the season that Ikon Pass would be direct to lift (since they have folks scanning), it is not. Thus, you have to wait in a long line to get a lift ticket. Heard from an employee that this could be the last year of the Ikon Pass at Sunday River.

Little Whitecap had recently seen snowmaking and was in decent shape, more of a loose granular on Moonstruck, but packed powder on Starlight.

Whitecap (White Heat Quad) opened late due to wind, but with only two options. White Heat was in good shape, though very congested and starting to get scraped on the steep. Did not ski upper Obsession, but lower was variable with some ice and a tiny bit of grass. Whitecap Quad Trails were decent, though Wildfire was ungroomed (recent snowmaking). Trails were a bit congested.

Took one run off Locke (T2), which was nice and not crowded. Bim's was closed. Snowmaking recently wrapped on Crewcut/Southpaw.

Only took one run off Barker, as the lines were long. Right Stuff was decent, though crowded. Snowmaking into the chairs from Rocking Chair. Top Gun/Lower Goat Path not open.

Skipped Spruce, as the two blues looked very congested, and Downdraft looked like very thin cover.

Chondola opened a little late, but South Ridge was nevertheless quite congested. North Peak Quad wasn't as bad, but Dream Maker was busy.

Aurora's line was relatively short. Sensation, Paradigm, Airglow, and Northern Lights were groomed into the basin. Sensation and Airglow were decent, but Northern Lights was nasty on the lower half with moguls and novice wreckage on the sides and ice/boilerplate in the middle. Black Hole had recent snowmaking and looked doable, but a little firm up high.

Oz was closed and Jordan was on wind hold. Even though the connector double was running, you couldn't ski Cyclone or Firestar.
