Comments CommentsPurchased the session 1 (9:00-12:30) online. Showed up at 8:30 to find the parking lot at least half full already. Lots of folks and kids that you would not expect to see out skiing on a normal work day. It looked like a Saturday. Lift lines were very long, but there was always an employee present to direct the flow and keep it organized. There was a race in the morning on Challenger Trail, and the Minuteman lift area was very congested. Due to the long lines I only skied off of the Polar Express today. I figure that if I am waiting in an equally long lift line I may as well choose the one with higher elevation gain, and longer trails. There was plentiful snow on all the trails today. It was all groomed out smooth granular over a firm base. There were no ice patches or bare spots to be found anywhere. As the temp warmed up the loose granular softened up into a creamy smooth layer on top of the firmer base. The skiing was really nice! I especially enjoyed the old school Balance Rock trail as it winded through the forested areas. Parts of it have been incorporated into the newer Conifer Connection, but some original sections remain intact.

Ok so the skiing was really good and the weather was great. I decided that I wanted to stay after 12:30. I was able to add the session 2 (12:30-4:00) for $15. It was definitely worth it. There was about an hour of short lift lines as the session 1 crowd thinned out, and session 2 folks streamed in.

Also Wachusett is allowing folks to change up inside the lodge. You can't store anything inside, except for the paid locker area. But there are some outside storage areas available. I just geared up at the car as that's what I'm used to doing this year.

Weather: Mostly sunny, great visibility on the trails. Temperature was very pleasant, started out about 30° and warmed up to maybe 40°. Wind was not a factor today.
