Session SessionFull Day
Lift Ticket Ticket TypeIndy Pass
Lift Lines Lift Lines3 to 5 minutes
Snow Trail Conditions99% open; Packed Powder, Powder
Glades GladesOne of the largest gladed areas around. On-map glades were tracked out, but skiable. Lots of untracked powder elsewhere. Some of the heavily used steeps have some rocks poking through.
Moguls MogulsMost anything not groomed.
Terrain Park Terrain Park(s)A few features on Hide Away.
Run of the Day Run of the DayBolton Outlaw
Food and Beverage Food and BeverageMasks are optional in the lodge, so I was more than happy to spend my money there. Very cramped, but the cafeteria line was very efficient (as soon as my payment was complete, my order was waiting at the end of the line). Found a random table upstairs just after 11, but pretty much everything else was full. Timberline Lodge is closed (addition being constructed).
Comments CommentsNice natural snow day with virtually everything open. They definitely picked up more than a foot of powder from this storm, and it's not New England cement powder.

$5 RFID fee (if you don't have one) for the Indy Pass.

Best snow was on Timberline. The quad is being limited to doubles (mechanical or electric issue), so the line was the longest (stretching across the Timberline base area), but the trails hadn't been as heavily skied (1980s wider trail design, vs. some of the original terrain). A few groomed ways down from the top of Timberline and the mid-station, generally a couple of cat tracks wide, but otherwise it was ungroomed. Upper Tattle Tale and Upper Brandywine had a few rocks to watch out for in the steeps, but otherwise there was good coverage. I think Upper Villager and Timberline Run had manmade base underneath, but pretty much everything else in this complex was natural. Nice snow.

Off Vista Peak, Sherman's Pass and Alta Vista were fully groomed. Spillway had a single cat track down the middle, but had some ice at the top of the final pitch. Hard Luck had manmade base underneath (a little firm up top), but was not groomed (powder moguls). Upper Showoff (natural) was roped, but one could get into it via Hard Luck and Spillway. Vermont 200 (natural) had a really nasty stretch at the steepest part (blue ice and rock); rock skis only. Vista Glades needed caution on the drops, but otherwise had nice packed powder. Cobras (natural) was also pretty sketchy on the upper part with rock and ice, but the rest was packed powder/powder.

Lower mountain skied well, with caution on a few of stress points of natural trails/chutes. Lower Mouse Run (I think) was roped closed, but seemed like it had been groomed.

Wilderness (all natural) was also a lot of fun. Most of the blues and greens had seen a groomer pass or two since the storm. Upper Crossover is pretty narrow on the steep (rock/ice), but fine thereafter to Upper Fanny Hill. Upper Fanny Hill is thin on the steep, but otherwise fine. Bolton Outlaw was generally pretty good (a few random rocks). Cougar also had some rock/ice on the steep, but fine thereafter.

Good sized crowd today, particularly in the afternoon, but the trails were not crowded. Vista Quad was generally about a 2 minute wait. Wilderness had a line around 2:30PM, but was otherwise only about a minute or two. Timberline was a good 5 to 10 minutes after lunch (perhaps in part due to afternoon skiers parking at this base area), but was more manageable around 2.

Cold and cloudy to start, but the sun came out at lunch time. Cold winds at times, but fortunately the trails have plenty of twists/turns/trees to make it bearable. Friendly employees. Great views when the sun came out. None of the lifts are high speed or large vertical, but the area is still very large and has diverse terrain.
