Comments CommentsMy first and last day of the season at Wachusett. Got turned off by last years long midweek lift lines, and the 4-hour lift ticket sessions. But I had a day off midweek and didn't feel like driving too far.

I checked the Wachusett website Monday night and saw that the hours for this week were changed to 10AM - 6PM. Session 1 (10-12:30) price was $27. Session 2 (12:30-4) price was $47. And the double session (Session 1 & Session 2) price was $45. That makes no sense, but it was a no brainer to get the double session ticket.

Arrived in plenty of time for 10, but found out they started loading the lifts at 9:30, oh well...

Snow coverage was similar to livesforwinter's report on Monday. Thin and narrow on Ralph's Run and Look Mom, better coverage on Hitchcock, Challenger, and the Frannies Folly area. The three upper mountain trails (Smith Walton, 10'th Mountain, and Conifer Connection still have mostly good coverage. Only the top half of Norm's Way was open. 18 of the 27 trails were still open.

The temperature at opening was just around 32 degrees with full sunshine. It warmed up into the low 40's in the afternoon with thin cloud cover. The past two days of cold temperatures firmed up the snowpack, but it was groomed out nice and smooth. As the day progressed the sunshine softened and buttered up the top layer of the snow. It was a classic spring skiing day! Not many people here today, a complete opposite of my experience last year. Never waited more than a minute at the lift.

Ran into a friend from Loon and we skied together until noon when she had to leave. We had a great time. I think today was the pick of the week. Really glad I went. Wachusett closes for the season on Sunday 4/3.
