Comments CommentsStarted skiing around 9am, rocket21 suggested it was going to be a locals day. I think he was right. A couple of the usual notable characters were out and about, always good fun. Trail conditions were pretty good all around. The recent storm brought about 20” to the area, and although it compressed down pretty significantly it still looked and felt like winter everywhere!

Roy’s Way and Jug were not open. Glades were not roped off, but were probably pretty firm. Little Spruce was ungroomed, and still firm by 3:00 despite the sunshine.

We hit the steeps early knowing the corduroy would probably get skinned off pretty quickly. Upper Minnie Dole was groomed, and firm all day; we took that trail quite a few times off the chair. UMass, Grizzly, Competition, and Flying Cloud got our attention immediately. They definitely got scratchy by lunch time, but were plenty skiable with control and speed checking. War Dance, Lower Minnie’s and Hemlock were the best all day to me.

Sled races were happening today on Lower Comp, 51 entries! A lot of creative sleds out there. Mountain ops and ski patrol set up kitchen mats at the end of the course to slow down contestants as they spilled over the finish line, but there seemed to be a bump so people crashed more than they did slow down!
