Comments CommentsToday was a very cold day at Whaleback. Temperatures were below zero most of the day and a light wind brought wind chills to around -20. This kept crowds away so both the West Side T-Bar and Summit Double were ski-on all day and other skiers weren't encountered often on the trails. There was plenty of snow on the ground, but only some natural trails and glades were open due to a crust hiding under 8" of dry powder. Groomed trails skied well and so did ungroomed terrain when the crust got broken up from skier traffic. Most of the open terrain was on the east side, except for the runs off the T-Bar. Snow was being made at various points around the mountain throughout the morning, but the guns were shut off by early afternoon. The T-Bar was running smoothly along with all of the other lifts as it seems they got the kinks worked out. There were a few instances during the day today that proved to me why the Whaleback experience is so great. In the morning a ski patroller offered a ride up before the lifts officially opened. Then while taking a break, the cook was walking around the lodge offering leftover cookie dough to skiers. Little things like these, in addition to the terrain, are why I enjoy Whaleback so much. It was a great day and I'll be back as they continue to open more terrain.
