Comments Comments47 of 61 Trails, and 9 of 10 Lifts were open today. Only the East Basin lift was not running. No lift lines, short wait in the group line at the gondola.

The temperature was at or below 0° to start out the day. Rose to 7° by noon. Clear sky and sunny. Brisk wind from the Northwest.

Yesterdays snowfall was groomed out overnight. The snow was so cold that it seemed a bit sticky and slow in the flat sections leading up to the chairlifts. It was very windy and cold on North Peak. The wind was blowing straight up Flume and Sunset, holding you back as you skied down. As skiers churned up the snow the wind blew the powder away, leaving gravely pebbles in some of the windiest areas. The West Basin trails are more sheltered and it was slightly less windy there. Snowmaking was in progress at South Peak, and only Boom Run and Cruiser were open today. Overall the snow conditions were pretty darn good, but I ended up calling it at lunchtime due to the cold and wind.

Loon announced today that they are replacing the Kanc Quad with an 8-seat bubble chairlift with heated seats for next season. This news has been out on the blogs for a while now, but it seems Loon is now making it official.
