Comments CommentsHad a little change of pace today, so went over to Loon to check out what was in store. Not much different than what you'd expect given the lack of cold temps and natural snow, but it felt better than what was expected when we took our first couple of runs. My sister (who is 2 years younger than me) was home for Christmas break, and we both decided to come check out the main terrain parks Loon's known for. She's currently studying at Colorado University Boulder, and is on the freestyle team there as well. She wanted to lap the park for most of the day, so that's how we spent most of our time here.

When we started out, we drove over to the Lincoln peak base and then rode up the Lincoln Express to Tote. Pickled Fox had decent coverage, but Grand Rapids was already icy by 10:30. Who could have expected that.....
The new Seven Brothers Express was the lift we mainly stayed on throughout the day, even thought it was really crowded most of the time. Riding the singles lane helped reduce wait time. The loading ramp is also a bit tricky to use too. If you press yourself up against the red light, the gate won't open for your side. It is a huge pain in the ass. If you kept doing it, the lifty inside would yell through an outside loudspeaker saying "Step away from the wait gate". Like dude, was that really necessary? You think people are doing that on purpose?? Go to hell guy.

I did also happen to ride the North Peak Express for a bit too, although it was only for a couple runs. Upper / Lower Walking Boss were actually in decent shape before noon, with some nice soft groomed surfaces before Haulback. It would have been the run of the day, but Springboard was just better in my opinion. Upper Flume I only rode once. Was a total sheet of ice, but Lower Flume was at least a bit better. The snow down there was kinda firm. East Basin double was open, so took that out and over to Loon Peak. Exodus to Pickled Fox and then cutacross to Lower Speakeasy. Love all the turns in that area.

Eventually headed back over to Lincoln Peak via Tote Road Quad at around 3:15. Solid day of skiing; glad to spend another day here. Here's to 2023!
