Comments CommentsMade a fun day-trip over to another area on the bucketlist. Bit of a colder day than usual, but not at all worried. I decided to start out over at Bear an I'm glad I did. Almost nobody in the parking lot, and almost felt like I was the only guy inside the lodge there.

Attitash currently has 50% of its terrain open today, and were continuously blowing snow throughout the day on 4 trails. I quite honestly don't know why they decided to wait so long to make snow. It's currently February, looks like they waited a bit too long. Welcome to Vail Resorts I guess. Snowmaking continued on Grandstand and Moat all day, with Wandering Skis and Wilfred's Gawm to about 1:30. Flying Bear brought you to only 2 trails off the top, and both were in really decent shape. Illusion was excellent all day today with some nice wall-to-wall grooming.

The progression quad was up and running, and checked that out periodically. Thad's Choice was fun to lap from time to time. Snow in general is very soft, and has a solid base to it. Not too much ice in places besides from normal sharp turns or sudden steep drops. Saco and Northwest Passage are some great examples.

After lunch I was halfway up Flying Bear and saw 2 identical C-17's fly straight through the valley. How's that for a little action? A crowd of patroler's were all watching from the top, and apparently there is an aircraft hanger in Vermont somewhere where they fly out of for training flights. According to them they don't do that often, so whenever they do they fly super low over the area. That was certainly one of the highlights of my day!

Another great day to ski mid-week. Temps started out with 7 degrees in the morning and eventually got up to 20 mid-day, with all lifts being walk-on.
