Comments CommentsWindy, snowy day at Mad River Glen. 1 to 2 inches of powder fell during the day.

Bought online in advance to save a few bucks. They scan your phone at the window and give you sticker wicket tickets, which they then scan every run. The scanners felt out of place to me; wish they would check the old fashioned way at an old fashioned ski area.

Practice Slope complex was closed for much of the day for a race, but opened at the end and was in good shape.

Birdland Chair was not operating, so the stuff above Snail wasn't accessible. Most of the terrain in the complex was groomed and was skiing very nicely.

Sunnyside steeps were thin up top (e.g. blue ice and or rocks in the troughs), but better further away from the wind. The various Quackys were pretty well filled in and Porcupine was the groomer of the day for me.

Antelope and Catamount were groomed options off the single chair; generally good with a couple of minor ice patches. Catamount Bowl was bumps and a little thin up top, but okay.

Lower Antelope was generally well covered, with a few random thin spots to look out for between bumps (noted three young men snowshoeing up with snowboards on their backs). The lower portion of the trail had the nicest snow and softest bumps. Canyon/Grand Canyon bumps were a bit big in places, but the runout was nice. Moody's had softer powder.

Lower trails were generally decent, though the southern facing Periwinkle Bowl headwall was firm from a thaw/freeze (the chute off S Turn into it was good).

Crowds grew as folks arrived in the afternoon (Vermont Town Meeting Day), but there was never more than a couple or so chair wait. Apart from wishing for some sun and a little less wind, can't complain about getting a decent Mad River Glen day.
