Comments CommentsToday was a free ski day at Spruce, thanks to Pallet One of Livermore Falls. I headed over to the mountain a little after noon, and enjoyed a grilled cheese ($1) and a chicken finger basket ($5) for lunch, before starting skiing. Every trail and all three rope tows were open, and the mountain was quite busy. Cover was quite good, with only a few spots of thin cover on the last pitch of Suicide. Every trail, except Bowl, had been groomed. Groomed terrain was wet packed powder, and ungroomed terrain was wet powder. There was still plenty of untracked snow from yesterday's storm to be found in the woods and along the edges of trails. While Spruce doesn't have any official glades, there was plenty of snow in the woods to the skier's right side of the mountain to explore. Spruce has a nice mix of wide open slopes and narrow classic New England-style trails. Today, I especially enjoyed the narrower trails, such as Raspberry, Squirrel, and Suicide. Spruce has a legitimate vertical drop for a rope tow area, and the 2-3 rope tow rides to return to the summit will test your grip strength. I skied until around 4:00, before headed back home. I've skied at Spruce quite a few times, and today was in the top couple of days that I've had there for sure!
