Comments CommentsFinally! After almost 4 seasons, I made a day trip back to one of my favorite places on the east coast. Last time I had the pleasure of visiting was before Covid, and lots of things have changed here for the better. ( And hey while I'm here, how is it that I'm only the third person to ever do a write up on Stowe?? Thought there were more reports, but nope. Happy to be one of a few I guess! )

Parked up at the Midway lodge around 8:30, and already was a little toasty while booting up there. Decided to just rock my fleece, sweatshirt and vest. Good call b/c it got really warm today. Mansfield quad and the Gondola summits had maybe a half-inch dusting from last night. Groomers off the top were incredible. Ridgeview, Lookout Loop, Sunrise, North Slope were great in the morning but were tracked out quickly. Perry Merrill, Gondilier and Cliff Trail were also in great shape, with not as much corn later on in the day.

The Sunrise lift I rode many times today. I remember when this was a slow triple chair - hated how slow that thing was back then. It's now a nice fast detachable six place chair that gets you to some nice long groomers and a couple naturals & bump runs. It's in the western area of the resort (lookers left of the Mansfield area), and never had a line. In the afternoon, I just found myself taking laps again and again on Lower Gulch and T-Line.... what a great spot!

Sunny Spruce and Sensation quads were also great to hit mid-day if you didn't mind the sticky runouts back to either lift. Upper Main Street was really the only trail I could get an edge on, as lots of corn filled up the other trails. I can't see most of the natural trails on Spruce lasting any longer than this without more snow. Rocks and small bare spots here and there, Upper + Middle Smugglers has lots of those.

With the exception of a couple minute wait for FourRunner and the Gondola, most lifts were walk-on all day. It was nice and sunny up until noon, and got up to (I think) around 46 degrees. What a day to be back!
