Comments | Still taking advantage of the big snow storm from the weekend of March 8, 9, 10; I will say that driving across New England twice, The snow cover was all over the place. But, the mountains certainly had it! Friday it basically rained off and on all day for my drive from Warren, VT then on Route 2 to Wilton/Farmington where I met a friend to ski Saddleback and Sugarloaf. We got on the lift about 10 am and had to park quite a ways down the access road. There were lines at times, but when there were, we skipped the Rangely Quad and took the Sandy Chair and the T-Bar. I was surprised at how uncrowded the trails were compared to how packed the lodge and parking lots were. After a few warm up runs on normal groomed trails, we decided to venture into the woods. First on what we thought would be easy, the Wolly Bugger Glades which we found challenging not for their pitch, but rather for their tree density. After scouting from the Kennabago Quad, we dropped into Dark Wizard Glades from the top of Family Secret. Then we got bolder after lunch and ventured into the Casablanca area. Its quite a long schuss, but well worth it! We did #4, and then #3 and meandered down to 2, and 1 and 0. Could have spent all day in there. It was not fresh untracked powder by any means, but the cover was really good and consistent through out. They got snow from Friday's lower elevations rain which I think helped things out. Fantastic Day! |
