Comments | Amazingly they didn't lose much snow over the past week. $9 tickets for one top to bottom run. Upper Maple Slalom was down to a single cat-track wide, but okay first thing. Rocks started to emerge after an hour or two on this stretch. Jackson Standard was more like two cats wide and still had good base. No issues getting back to the double chair - still more than a foot of snowpack across the base area. Double had 15+ minute lift lines (stretching across much of the base area). Triple was only running for foot traffic, which is good, because anything more than the double would have overcrowded the trail. I've never seen so many folks at Black. I got there about 20 minutes before scheduled opening (they ended up loading the chair 15 minutes or so early) and was stick in a ticket line for more than 15 minutes (not helped by the cumbersome Entabeni point-of-sale process). Parking lots filled by 10. Two Jackson police officers were out on the road ticketing vehicles and, by lunchtime, coordinating tow trucks. In a spring with better weekend weather, this late season model could work for an area like Black. Amazing that, despite the lower elevation and southern exposure, they made it a month longer than Wildcat! |
