Lift Lines Lift Lines3 to 5 minutes
Snow Trail Conditions90% open; Packed Powder, Frozen Granular
Glades GladesRabbit Run Glades open, very skiiable albeit thin. Not sure why this isn't a named trail any longer. Neverending Trail (I think) was also one of the few ungroomed and natural trails left, although its been widened significantly as was Sugarbush. White knuckle was closed Sunday, but some kids were dropping in below the entrance down Black Beauty. East side trails have pretty much lost that wild natural back country feel.

Comments CommentsTOO CROWDED! Wow what happened to Black?? I guess the digital Highway sign is true, "Welcome to Jaspen". Record day? Record weekend? Probably, got to base at 8:50 and the parking lot was already nearing capacity. If I hadn't stayed over Saturday night in West Ossipee, I'd have never got there in time to get a parking space driving up from CT. Brief Indy rant...I decided to test the Black/Entebenni System since there is a covered deck trailside kiosk on the back of the Double Chair terminal. It wasn't working...screen was on log in, and it remained that way all day. You wouldn't want to use it anyways, let alone sit at the 2 picknick tables there with a giant bluetooth thundering bass speaker system pumping out dance club music. I was let on once, then stood in line for the in person check in downstairs. Line did move rather quick and I will say they seemed to handle the crowds rather well. There is also an outside ticket window now on the back of the Platter terminal. So, still have yet to make use of the self serve Entebenni kiosk thing, if that's even what these are for. Now for my skiing report. I should mention that I only skieed here 3 times in the pre-Erik Mogenson Era, and only once when everything was open from the summit double, so my historical first hand knowledge of the trail network is a bit limited, and now alot has changed with widening and snowmaking and trail-renaming, I'm not entirely sure what is now or once was, so I apologize if I give the wrong trail names, etc.
Lifts were crowded in the morning till about 1 or 2, then they were only a brief wait. All lifts open including the Jbar. Of my 2 skiing companions for the day, one is a novice and she only had the beginner ticket, so we accompanied her on the Platter and J-Bar for a few runs before hitting the double and triple. New Platters on the Platter-pull. JBar lift attendant just stood there and let everyone load themselves. They really should grab the bar and hand it to you. There is a new widened Eno's Tail to get from the top of the Whitney's Area back to the Double, but no evidence of "Kinda Flat" to get there from Jubilee dispite being on the map. The lines were long, longest I've ever seen here, but that still keeps the mountain uncongested which is good. Surprising amount of terrain open, all of it groomed and homogenized. Ridiculous snowmaking wales smoothed out to potentially open Roller Coaster, guns blaring on other parts of the mountain on trails you'd never expect. Jackson Standard Glacier vying to be the next Killington Superstar, (where does all the water come from for this??) Everything skied great, only ice/boiler plate on the lower section of Upper Maple Slalom, and the straight away section of Upper Black beauty before the sharp turn at white knuckle. Sugarbush is brand new, widened as advertised. So have the other east side trails in that area which while makes them more of a trail too attract natural snow, than a narrow glade like run, they've sadly lost some of their character. Got to see the end of the new Champagne Problems trail, which were not yet opened. Sugarshack still under construction, doesn't look like it will be completed this year, but its on the map. That being said, lots of cruising trails and corduroy. Big whale on Maple Chute which hasn't been opened yet. With that closed, there isn't a great way to get to the west side trails from the summit without basically having to stop at the bottom and shuss past the obscenely large Alpine Cabin footprint to shuss up and over to Sunvalley and Speedwell. The DJ music is annoying. I still don't understand the champagne fetish. They ran the double an extra hour 'till 5 pm. I quit at 4:30. Overall, despite my bitching about how nothing is as it used to be, it was an excellent ski day for me. The Jury is still out on weather or not all this capital investment will end up paying off, or should I say, be able to be paid off...
