Comments CommentsWhat a day! I have been raving to my friend Sarah about Magic for years...at first she was skeptical that this place really existed outside of my imagination. Saturday she finally made the trip. Parking lots already packed by 9 am! New this year, the abandoned hotel on the access road is mostly torn down and serving as a parking lot now, there is also a shuttle down to the far parking areas which I don't remember them having before. What service! They handle the crowds very well here. Indy/Entebeni Public Service Message: No mater what, you have to check in, but at least you can skip the line, and as long as one of the Erik Morgensen kiosks are ON and have the check in screen up, you can skip the ticket line and basically wave your cards as much as 3 feet away and they'll pick up your info and you're on your way. The place was packed, it was their Winterfest on Saturday and it had just snowed overnight, so everything was just right. Despite all this, the lodge was still very navigable, the line for the Red Chair was only once more than 5 minutes at 10 am, Black Chair move quicker and after 1 they were almost ski on. The snow was great, and by reading Nordicgal's post from Friday, it seemed to really help the overall conditions. I think everything was untouched by the groomers and that's a good thing on a day like today. It was the kind of snow you dream about. West Side trails were open and powder stashes were to be found around every corner in the woods. Even Magician with its foreboding rocks were covered enough to make a decent run down. We hit glades and hidden woods trails almost everywhere, some marked, some not. I can't honestly remember where we were looking back at the map. Potter, Sorcerer, The Wardrobe, maybe the Hallows. Twilight Zone, Disappearing Act, White Kitten. And then there were the cruisers! I was hard pressed to find any objectionable ice or hardpack. Again, the crowds are handled extremely well here. Once on the mountain and on the trails, it didn't feel that busy at all. They ran out of hotdogs at the T-Bar and I'm not a fan of DJ Dance Club Music if you want to hear me complain about something. Legs were shot at 3:30 so I called it. Thanks for a great day Geoff!
