Comments CommentsTook advantage of the $30 Sunday afternoon special.

The vast majority of the trails were open. Terrain off the fixed grip lifts tended to ski nicely even at the end of the day, while the trails off the detaches were a bit tired.

On Attitash, Wilfred's Gawm, part of Middle Ptarmigan, and Spillway (race) were closed. A few ungroomed trails with thin cover on the lower mountain, but otherwise pretty good going. Tightrope and Upper Ptarmigan skied nicely with packed powder and edgeable frozen granular where skied off. The lower mountain had a little bit of spring snow in the sun.

Bear Peak's upper mountain intermediate trails were beat up, as they're a bit challenging for novice skiers (and there is no novice way down). Upper Wandering Skis had some rocks and ice, but improved as one descended. Illusion was closed for race training. Avenger was half bumps and half groomed. Kachina Falls had some boiler plate with enough texture to edge. I didn't ski Upper Kachina (ungroomed), as I thought it was roped off...didn't realize until I was past it that there was an opening to enter. Trillium and Moonbeam (off the Kachina Triple) were fantastic; often overlooked because they can't be accessed via the high speed quad without some uphill. Still found some corduroy on the side of Trillium late in the day.

While I expected the area to be slammed at 1 PM, we never waited for more than about half a dozen chairs on any lift, including the detaches. Nice conditions for a weekend afternoon.
