Comments CommentsHad about a 45 minute delay getting to the mountain due to a serious accident on Rt 93 Northbound between exit 23 and 24. The North Peak Express Quad opened today, but the only trail open from that lift was Sunset. From the Loon Peak the Bear Claw, Picked Rock, Flying Fox trails were open. Also from the Loon Peak Big Dipper to Cant Dog to Lower Angel Street was open. From the Grand Junction area the Lower Bear Claw, Seven Brothers, and Lower Picked Rock trails were open back to the Gondola. Also the Link trail to Camp III, and the Brookway trail were open. Snow conditions were squeaky, fast, and firm. The steeper S-curve areas of Upper Picked Rock and Flying Fox trails were scraped off to boilerplate rather quickly. But otherwise the snow conditions were good and more typical of mid-winter than Thanksgiving. The weather was cold to start, 15 degrees F, but warmed up to the mid twenties by noon time. The sky was mostly clear and sunny, and the trails were well lit by the morning sun. Excellent scenic views of Mount Washington in a cloudless sky for the entire morning. Also Waterville Valley was visible from the back side of Loon Peak, and Killington was clearly visible from the top of Sunset Trail. With the colder weather conditions most patrons chose to ride the Gondola, so the group line was about 15 minutes long there. There was no line over at North Peak, so I spent most of my morning there. Snow Making was ongoing on the West Basin trails, and on Walking Boss. A groomer was pushing whales around on Lower Walking Boss all morning, so I think that trail will open tomorrow. Overall conditions were outstanding for Thanksgiving weekend.
