Comments CommentsDecent conditions, considering the monsoon and subsequent deep freeze. An inch (most of the mountain) or two (up high) of overnight snow helped a little.

We started at South Peak, which was the worst skiing due to it not having been refreshed with snowmaking yet. Would recommend skipping this complex until we either get natural snow or else they shift snowmaking back to it. Boom Run and Cruiser both had extended bulletproof stretches on the steeper portions (traverses were fine). Twitcher and Jobber were initially okay, but the boilerplate was showing quickly. Ripsaw is closed, but they did make snow on it at some point (not enough to open yet). No lines for this lift.

We then went to North Peak, hitting Walking Boss, which had been restored decently. Skipped Flume because it looked to be cold with the top to bottom snowmaking in progress, but it was open with decent coverage under the guns. Sunset was okay. North Peak lift was generally ski on.

East Basin trail were a bit rough. Can't Dog was scraped in places. Big Dipper was listed as groomed, but had some carnage. Angel Street was rough, but skiable with caution to the junction, as was Basin Street, the latter being groomed to about half width. Rolling Bear was fine, and Drop Line to the Link were good.

Only skied once off the gondola, as it was the only lift running out of that base area and lines were 5 to 10 minutes. New cabins appear identical to the old ones, albeit cleaner. Spot snowmaking in progress helping refresh the trails. Upper Flying Fox had some carnage, but Upper Picked Rock was decent.

We finished the morning at West Basin, where conditions were best. Lift line ranged from ski on to a couple of minutes. Coolidge Street and Lower Northstar skied nicely, as the boilerplate had been chewed up into loose granular. Some fan guns were running at the final pitch to the base area, putting down some good manmade powder to keep that area good.

Clear skies with a chilly breeze. Not overly crowded. Friendly employees. Not a bad choice for Christmas morning.
