Comments CommentsFinally made it to Killington with the South Ridge Quad running...kind of neat to start at US 4/Skyeship and ski the eastern area and Canyon without going through the base area. Crowds felt more like a Sunday than a non-holiday Friday. A dusting to an inch of new snow overnight and some drifting.

Started with a couple of runs off Skye Peak...Panic Button and Skyeburst skied nice early. Outer Limits looked nice from the chair, but I didn't enjoy it...boilerplate and ice base (couldn't hold an edge) and drift filled mogul troughs.

Went over to South Ridge thereafter...Jug did not look good, as there is carnage from construction poking through, as well as plenty of ice. Pipe Dream skied well. Took a risk and skied Solitude (Juggernaut name is gone) all the way to Sunrise...lots of poling (super flat), but very nice touring trail with a wilderness feel. Noted some nice glades too.

The South Ridge Quad provides access (albeit slow, perhaps the slowest chair on the mountain) to the Canyon area, so I crossed over and skied East Fall, which was decent. Downdraft and Double Dipper looked terrible with long wall to wall stretches of ice and boilerplate. Big Dipper woods looked good.

I then took a run on Cascade, which had been blown down to boilerplate on the steeps. This ended up being a mistake, as shortly after I got on the Canyon Quad, the lift stopped. About 29 cold, somewhat windy minutes later, it started crawling up the mountain on diesel. Employees were asking people if they were okay on top and saying sorry, but not so much as a warm beverage voucher was offered. Total time on lift was about 45 minutes, or about 10% of the operating day; disappointing that nothing was offered. Very chilled and a bit bitter, I skied the long way down to Skyeship and called it a day. After getting lunch at a gas station and warming up in my vehicle, I headed over to Pico, where conditions were much better.
