Comments CommentsDecided to cross my fingers for a few hours of skiing before the rain and lucked out. Glimpses of sun and blue sky this morning, before it started pouring around 11:30.

I only encountered one closed trail (Little Sister); all other trails were open at some point. Did note some closed glades (such as Undercut, though folks were ducking the rope).

Gondola was on hold this morning (noted the cabins swaying a little bit in the wind at the summit, but they were spinning closed late in the morning), but just about every other lift was running. I preferred skiing off Loon Peak via East Basin vs. dealing with the gondola and lines/traffic.

Upper North Peak was beat up from the weather with some ice bulges, but generally soft enough to get an edge into. The lower portion of the trails skied well. Sunset had probably the most carnage.

From Loon Peak, a few trails were initially closed until they softened up. I skied Triple Trouble for the first time, which is a nice trail. The bumps were a bit tricky, as the troughs were soft frozen granular, while the bumps themselves were sticky wet powder. Big Dipper had similar conditions. Angel Street and Basin Street had a few patches of carnage, but were otherwise fine.

Flying Fox, Upper Picked Rock, and Upper Speakeasy all skied fine (the latter a little firm), with Upper Picked Rock probably being the best. Kind of nice to have the summit so quiet with just the double running.

Took a few runs in West Basin. Lower Speakeasy was a little firm and Upper Northstar was quite nice, as was Lower Rumrunner. Upper Rumrunner has a growing bare/ice spot, and in conjunction with Coolidge Street (recent racing), was kind of icy.

Last day of South Peak for the season, so conditions are sort only for posterity's sake, but the expert trails skied decently. Boom Run and Cruiser were a little rough up high, but okay down low. The headwall on Ripsaw was icy, but the rest was good. Upper Twitcher had some carnage, but Lower Twitcher and Jobber had nice, smooth spring snow, the latter of which necessitated me taking a second run on it.

Nice to ski Loon on a weekend day without crowds. Most lift rides were ski-on. Amazing how much different the mountain skis without the crowds and gondola.
