Comments CommentsOne of the best days of skiing this season. Packed powder/powder to start the morning, then smooth spring snow in the afternoon. Almost everything open. $39 online ticket was a good deal. No RFID fee.

I particularly like their approach of keeping virtually all of the terrain open by having the White Peaks/Green Peak/High Country lifts operating, as compared to other large areas that are closing entire lifts/complexes late season. Midweek late season is particularly nice, as you don't have to deal with any crossover or base area traffic, which results in the mountain skiing big.

Finally got to ride the High Country T-Bar. Some have been critical of this choice, but it's much faster than the old chairlift was, and High Country skis much better without the chairlift towers going up the middle. It makes for a much nicer tandem top-to-bottom run than the old chairlift too. Ruthie's and Hassle were groomed packed powder this morning, while the stuff in between was left ungroomed (some powder, some windblown glacier). Nice conditions and views.

Green Peak skied nicely. Governor's, Chandler's, and Clean Shaven were smoothly groomed, while Piano Man and Calvert's Crossing were left ungroomed with some powder still to be found in the morning. Pfosi's was closed (rock show), as was upper Wayne Wong (full cover, but looked firm).

Sunnyside was a treat. Oblivion and No Grit were groomed for nice cruising, while a couple passes were also made down the middle of True Grit (awesome). Gema was ungroomed, but had very nice soft powder on top of a consistent firm (but edgable) base. Ciao was not quite as consistent, but good. Lower Bobby's was best on the middle of the trail, straddling the side of the bumps (far side is melting down).

Main mountain skied well, with Psyched being ungroomed with some powder to be found early. Lower Sel's was left as bumps with a pass down it with the cat (last part of Siegal Street was strangely roped, but you could get the whole thing from Upper Sel's. Groomed trails were good, with only Chute showing any firmness. Utter Abandon was fun.

Northside had great wide open carving in the morning on Tippy/Tyler. Lower Boneyard (somewhat neglected in past years) is well covered and groomed (with a side of bumps). Tangent/Periphery were ungroomed. Preston's Path was a treat - the narrow lift line trail (added officially a few years ago) was loaded with powder.

What a day. Sad to think closing day is Sunday, but what a great way to end the Waterville season.
