Comments CommentsI made it over to Sunday River for a beautiful closing day. As usually on closing day, they offered free skiing to everyone. The snow started out as hardpack under cloudy skies, but quickly softened as temperatures warmed and the sun came out. Sunny skis and temps in the 50s brought out crowds, but they were never extreme, and the lift line was never more than a couple of minutes long. They were running the Barker Express, which served about 20 open trails. All officially open trails were skiable without mandatory walking or grass-skimming. Some trails, such as Goat Path and Crossbow were not officially open, but were not blocked off either. These both offered excellent skiing, save for some trees which had been felled on Crossbow and some wet areas which had to be skimmed on Goat Path. Ungroomed trails moguled up very well, but those still remain my weak spot. It all added up to be one of the best days of spring skiing yet this year.
