Comments CommentsDecent conditions considering the hand dealt with two large rain events in less than a week plus dropping temps. Conditions were initially spring snow below 3,000 feet or so, but surfaces set up as the morning progressed. Lincoln had a decent snowstorm going at 4:00 today (not a speck flying south of Thornton). No wind holds this morning.

Ikon Pass is direct to lift RFID at Loon starting this year.

From the main base area, the gondola and triple both had a few minute lines after 9 AM. With the exception of the parks, the main mountain trails were open. Some random thin areas, with a decent amount of carnage on lower Flying Fox. Upper Speakeasy was ungroomed with some carnage near the bottom. Overall, conditions were somewhat akin to what one might expect after a spring rain. Not much in way of boilerplate, perhaps because temperatures didn't get too cold.

From the Kanc Quad (mostly ski on with occasional one minute lines), most everything was open with the exception of Upper Northstar to Lower Rumrunner. Lower Northstar appeared to have the thinnest cover of the open trails. Upper Rumrunner to Coolidge Street was open, but ungroomed with firm whales. I actually enjoyed the conditions due to the variety of pitches/fall lines it provided. Apparently this will be pushed out and groomed tomorrow. I did not venture over to the beginner complex, but it was open.

North Peak (no lines) had taken a beating, but still had two top to bottom runs (Sunset to Haulback to Lower Flume; Walking Boss top to bottom; the former route was better). The upper portions of both trails were narrow. Upper Flume is not yet open, but looks to be a day or so of snowmaking away from being ready.

East Basin was largely closed; basically Crosscut and down was open. Some random piles on Angel Street and Basin Street, so perhaps those trails aren't too far off.

South Peak (no lines) had two top to bottom runs: Boom Run and Cruiser. Both were firm all the way down until the flats (spring snow at that point), but edgeable. Virtually no snow in the woods on this side. South Peak will be closed until next weekend, but it looked like Twitcher and Jobber have enough snow to open (after being pushed out). A snowmaking crew was hosing up guns on Ripsaw this morning.

Especially given their strong snowmaking firepower and virtually limitless water, as well as how much survived the rain, most of the mountain should be open and in decent shape by next weekend.
