Comments Comments52 of 61 Trails, and 10 of 10 Lifts were open today. Long lift lines for most of the day. Did not go to the gondola.

The temperature was 21° at 8 AM, rose to 36° when I left at 3:30. Thin high clouds and filtered sunshine to start the day. Cloudy by noon. Light snow started around 2 PM and continued until I left at 3:30. No wind to speak of.

Started out at South Peak in hopes of escaping the weekend congestion at the main mountain areas. Well, that was the plan anyway. Arrived before opening and got a good parking spot in the upper lot at South Peak. There was adequate space in the lodge to start out, but the place filled up very quickly. The snow condition on all five South Peak trails was outstanding! Edge to edge groomed packed powder. Ripsaw, Twitcher, and Jobber skied nicely. It got busy really fast though. By 9 the lift line was at least 10 minutes long, and the singles line was snaked up unto the hill. Chairlift chatter with some folks that arrived at 8:15; They had to park in the Escape Route parking lot, and wait 30 minutes for the shuttle bus. Once they got to the lodge they had to wait another 45 minutes in the ticket line to pay $104 for their day ticket! They said they weren't complaining though, they were happy to be out skiing! When I went in for a break I saw that the ticket line was snaked all around the inside perimeter of the lodge, and continued for another 75 feet outside. Since ICON passes are now direct to the lift at Loon I suspect that most of these folks were purchasing day tickets. I haven't seen it this busy before, except for Holiday periods.

I almost got taken out by an out of control snowboarder on Cruiser. He wiped out behind me at a high rate of speed, and brushed against my right leg as he tumbled past. He was okay.

Went to North Peak around 11 AM. Again the snow conditions were outstanding, but there were very long lift lines. Even the East Basin double was backed up. Same story down at the Kanc Quad. Did not even bother to go down to the gondola base area because it usually has the longest lift lines.

By 2 PM the lift lines shortened quite a bit. But by then some key areas of the trails were getting skied off. I went down Angel Street late in the day and the upper section was skied down to boilerplate.

Did I mention that it was crowded today?
