Glades GladesThe usual flat glades were not open. However, once they opened Sweepstakes mid-morning, there was access to Pel's Pass. Also, mid-morning, when they opened the Spear lift, there was access to the lower Abyss entry if you took the cutover from Cardigan to Flying Yankee and then did a short uphill to get to Abyss. I did not get into Pel's Pass but I did run through the Abyss twice. First time was rough with the 4' of snow - felt more like 3' in the woods - deep snow was great for floating down the steeps but once it flattened out, not easy to stay on plane. After a few tracks groomed it out, the fun factor was much higher.

Comments CommentsI got there at opening bell. Given the reduced capacity on the six-pack, the line soon reached the edge of the Spear lift and was AWFUL!!!!!! Even in the singles line, it was HORRIBLE!!! Thankfully, they opened up the Spear lift at 10am, warning small children they would be covered in snow as "there was no grooming and no snowmaking - just 4' of powder and no base!!!!" to the queue at the Spear Lift. This was good because it kept the intrepid away. A groomer had actually run up Cardigan/Turnpike but there was plenty of natural snow beyond the width of the groomer. Lots of wipeouts to see. Lines really diminished late morning - no wait for Spear and the 6-pack was moving. Really fine day once terrain opened. A few rocks here and there, but, I really enjoy riding the natural snow. It was very picturesque. Also, a big thanks to the skiers who offered to give me a tow on the flats of Lower Easy Winder. Big Rock, Cabin Fever, and Mikey's Run were all superb despite the long flat exit.
