Comments CommentsConditions were mostly packed powder on top of frozen granular on the upper mountain areas, loose granular on top of frozen granular for the lower elevation trails. Sunset and Lower Walking Boss had a deeper layer of powder and skied really nice. Upper Picked Rock was icy at the "S" curve area, someone fell there and was transported down in a basket. Lower Angel Street had a couple of slick spots so I skipped the upper part today. Rolling Bear was mostly slick hardpack.

Started out at the West Basin. Rumrunner was closed for race training. Upper Northstar and Lower Speakeasy trails are still not open. Only took two runs, then lots of folks and race kids showed up. Lines formed so I headed over to North Peak. Got to ski straight onto the lift at North Peak for the first three times, but then the lines were long for the rest of the day. Made a bunch of runs off the East Basin double, which had no line to speak of all day. Big Dipper trail was open with all natural, ungroomed snow. Triple Trouble was still closed.

Loon is not grouping singles, which leads to longer lift lines, and more time spent in line. Folks sometimes group themselves together, which can be awkward at times. I don't mind doubling up on a quad. I don't see it to be any worse than being in the lines. Mask enforcement seems to have slipped slightly since my last visit. There was nobody walking the lift line checking for masks today. They only checked when you reached the front of the line. Perhaps they don't have enough staff. I noticed a few, mostly younger, folks were not masking up until they approached the front of the line.

Security was patrolling the parking lot today. Lots of folks were tailgating, which was ok. However conspicuous alcohol consumption was not allowed.

Weather was cold to start out -2°. Warmed to 26° in the afternoon. No wind. Full sunshine all day. Bluebird sky with great visibility. Clear views of Mt Washington. Killington was visible from the top of Sunset. The snow never really softened up except for a few spots that received almost direct sun like the back side trail off Loon Peak.
