Comments CommentsClassic gorgeous spring ski day.
We arrived about 8:30, and got a great spot in the second lot. Lifts spin at 9. It didn’t take long to get on a chair, we picked up our RFID cards (traditional $5 charge), paid the $10 each to cover our day passes (Indy deal) and we were off!
First runs were in the Rangeley quad complex, and nothing disappointed. It was firm to start in places, but things quickly softened into great spring conditions. A mix of groomed and ungroomed trails mingled, keeping the day interesting as the temps climbed. We made one run down Tight Line from the summit just after 10am, and when we came back to ride the summit quad again it stopped running and maintenance was called. Lift attendants were great, quick to respond, and as we skied down to the lower beginner complex (we had already been scanned through the summit RFID when the chair stopped), snowmobiles were on their way to rescue. Quick enough fix we hopped back on it less than an hour later. All summit trails were beautiful. Never too firm, excellent snow. Even the ungroomed terrain left of Tight Line was in classic form.
It never was overcrowded, most people were genuinely happy to be skiing Saddleback again. The lodge and deck looked full from the chair, but we never went in. We brought chairs, and lunch and took our breaks at the car.

If you can find the time to have your skis waxed for the softer snow, I strongly advise it. If we hadn’t, we’d probably still be descending! :)
