Comments CommentsLifts in operation: Gondola only.

Trails Open: Exodus, Bear Claw, Picked Rock, Flying Fox, Grand Junction, Seven Brothers, and Loon Mountain Park.

According to the daily report a total of 15" of snow was received at the summit from the recent storm. This was the largest snow accumulation of the season at Loon. Lesser amounts were received toward the base area. Some minimal grooming was done overnight. The summit skied like random skier compacted packed powder, with some loose sticky powder on the sides. Lower elevation trails had more of a sloppy, wetter, snowman making type of snow. In fact someone did make a snowman on the side of Upper Bear Claw.

The only open trail off the Summit was Exodus to Bear Claw. The very top of Picked Rock and Flying Fox were closed. However, you could access these two trails from the cutoff at the beginning of Bear Claw. You could follow either of these three trails to the Grand Junction. From Grand Junction you could choose Lower Picked Rock, Loon Mountain Park, Seven Brothers, or Lower Bear Claw. The very bottom section of Lower Picked Rock was closed off and diverted onto Loon Mountain Park.

The bare sections of Picked Rock and Flying Fox were covered up with the new snow so caution was needed.

Loon was the only Mountain still open in NH, and 15" of new snow fell, so this led to a huge turnout today. Since the Gondola was the only lift in operation this all led to the longest lift line I've ever seen at Loon. With the crazy long wait we only got 5 runs in today. But heck, it was really a bonus day anyway. Tailgated with friends in the parking lot. Tomorrow is the last day of the season at Loon.

Weather: Temperature was 36° at opening, only rose into the mid 40's. Cloudy sky with occasional light snow flurries. No wind was noticed.
