Lift Lines Lift Lines0 minutes
Snow Trail Conditions60% open; Loose Granular, Packed Powder
Glades GladesThere is fairly consistent coverage above perhaps 2,000 feet, but it looked bulletproof today.
Moguls MogulsOff hand, saw them on upper Skye Hawk and Outer Limits, but they were closed and appeared to be bulletproof. Double Dipper also appeared to have bullet proof bumps (I think it was open, but I didn't see anyone venture onto it).
Terrain Park Terrain Park(s)Multiple parks, but did not explore.
Run of the Day Run of the DayNeedle's Eye
Food and Beverage Food and BeverageChicken tenders, fries, and a small hot chocolate cost $15 at the Killington Base Lodge. No food service at Skyeship base lodge today.
Comments CommentsPretty good conditions today on groomed trails. Plenty of folks skiing, but the size of the resort spread them out enough that all chairs were ski on. Conditions by base area:
Skyeship: Only one trail open (Great Eastern). A little scratchy in places, but it's flat enough that doesn't matter. Can only get to it at the end of the day from the Sky Peak Express side or the top of Needle's Eye (lower crossovers to it are closed).
Sunrise: One novice trail open.
Bear Mountain: Quad was not running, so the top was not really accessible. Bear Cub, Wildfire, Skyeburst, and I think Bearly were the only trails open down to the base area. So so conditions with random surprise ice and frozen granular patches.
Northbrook: Panic Button was scratchy, but Needle's Eye was fantastic loose granular conditions. Cruise Control was decent too. Did not venture onto the Northbrook Trail, as the Needle's Eye Quad was closed, the Skyeship Stage 2 was closed for part of the morning, and the Northbrook Quad was glacially slow.
Snowshed: Snowshed slope was okay first thing in the morning. Yodeler was open as well, but Low Road was closed.
Superstar: Glacier has a glacial top to it from the rain, but the cats have groomed to skiers right of it. Some golfballs in places and a little scratchy at the bottom. Skylark and Bittersweet were good in the morning, but a little scratchy in the afternoon. Upper Skyehawk, Upper Superstar, Nivi's Walk, Old Superstar, and Ovation are all closed, the latter two with very little snow.
South Ridge: All trails closed; no sign of any snowmaking there this year.
Killington Peak: Intermediates leading from the peak to the Skye Peak area were good packed powder/loose granular. Cascade was good in the morning, though the steeps were scraped in the afternoon. A small part of Escapade had a one cat-wide pass. I don't recall if Downdraft was "open" but it didn't look too inviting. Double Dipper I think was "open" but bumped up and I don't recall seeing a single skier on it. The intermediates off North Ridge were open with decent packed powder/loose granular conditions. Ridge Run closed. East Fall was groomed, but scratchy. Racer's Edge and Royal Flush were closed.
Snowdon: Highline has a bump competition course set up on one side and GS gates were on the other side for much of the day. Checked it out after the course was pulled and it was very scratchy. Mouse Trap was also scratchy. Upper Bunny Buster was great around lunch time and the Poma made for fast laps. North Star was closed. Did not venture onto Frolic, but the bottom of it (where it reaches Ram's Head) looked rough.
Ram's Head: Windiest part of the ski area today. Lift line is open from tower 11 and below; Easy Street accesses it. Loose granular conditions, but what appears to be a somewhat thin, bulletproof base not too far under.
Perhaps the first time I've actually enjoyed skiing Killington (in the past it's either been limited trail pods open or else brutally cold weather; today was frigid, but not too bad by mid morning). Phone informs me I did 26 runs for 37.7K feet of vertical.
