Comments CommentsStarted out at the new Kancamagus 8 lift. Most of the trails in this area were open. Lower Speakeasy, Lower Rumrunner, and Upper Northstar were not open yet. We skied all of the open trails in this area. The new lift is fast and quiet and gives a smooth ride. The entrance area to the RFID gates is roped off such that you need to pass through a small area which was getting blocked by folks waiting for other members of their party. Once inside the building towards the back you have to make a sharp right turn and line up at another gate to a moving conveyor. The conveyor takes you to a place where you stop and wait to load the chair. This all takes a bit of getting used to. When the chair comes you need to sit down quickly or it will bump you forward and you will slide down about three feet into a pit area where the chair will pass over you. We saw this happen to someone. The lift attendants stopped the lift quickly and helped them to get out ok. There was only a minute or two wait at this lift.

Next we went over to North Peak. There was only about a couple minute average wait at the lift. No singles line, nobody was directing traffic. But it worked out ok. The East Basin lift was not running today. Most of the trails were open. Cant Dog to Big Dipper, Triple Trouble, Angel Street, and Basin Street have not opened up yet.

We came down from North Peak and took a couple runs off of the Gondola. Snowmaking had just shut off on the Loon Mountain Park trail so we took a couple of runs through there. It was nice with soft snow and big soft snow whales to ski around.

The snow conditions were mostly groomed loose granular over the hardpack. The lift lines mostly disappeared after noon.

No hassles so far this year about wearing masks on any of the lifts or in the lift lines.

Snowmaking was active on Loon Mountain Park trail in the morning, and at the South Peak area. South Peak is supposed to open for the season on 12/26.

Weather: 8° to start the day, climbing to the mid 20° range. Cloudy with no wind.
