Comments CommentsStarted out at the West Basin. We arrived early, lined up before 8 at the new Kancamagus 8 lift, and waited for it to start loading. At 8:15 the lift was still not running. The lift attendants directed us to go over to the Gondola side. So we walked across the parking lot and loaded the gondola, with plans to head to North Peak. However the couple that we loaded with told us that they had just come from North Peak and that lift was also not running... So we skied down to the Tote Road lift and headed over to South Peak.

Four of the five South Peak trails were open, Ripsaw has not opened yet. The snow was nice and soft, and the lift line averaged about five minutes. We skied there until 10:30 when the lift line got longer and we saw on the display that North Peak was open.

We got a couple of runs in at North Peak before the crowds rolled in. Got almost first tracks on Upper Flume and Upper Walking Boss, they were really good. The best skiing of the week! By the third run the lift line was 10-15 minutes. Skied Upper Picked Rock, Flying Fox, Crosscut, and Haulback to Lower Walking Boss. The snow conditions were nice, soft and grippy. We also skied Rolling Bear twice. It didn't seem to be getting much skier traffic, and was in good shape.

Finished out the day with a couple of runs at the Kanc8 lift. Found long lines and the lift kept stopping, not sure why. Skied Rampasture, Picked Rock, and Blue Ox. They were also in good shape. Rumrunner and Coolidge Street were closed for racing.

The East Basin Double was not running again today. Someone said it was because the new Kanc8 lift uses more electric power than anticipated, and there was not enough power available to run all the lifts.
Interesting.

Weather: Light dusting of new snow overnight. Temperature was 32° to start the day, climbing to 41° when we left at 2:00. Very foggy with low visibility until about 11 AM. Then the fog cleared and it became partly sunny. Wind was not a factor today.
