Comments CommentsBusy day at the B-East.

Indy Pass reservation is required online (I think there are about 250 slots; it was down to a few dozen remaining yesterday afternoon), but it is not direct to lift; you still have to get your RFID loaded at the ticket or customer service counter (or pay $5 if you don't have the RFID).

Nearly all of the snowmaking trails were open, with Thunder, Bolt, and Hemlock closed with large snowmaking whales visible. Upper upper Minnie+the turn and Upper Exhibition were closed. None of the natural snow trails were open (looked thin and bulletproof). Upper and lower Competition were completely closed, as two races were being conducted simultaneously (one had been postponed from yesterday).

The steeps were scratchy fairly quickly with a boilerplate base under a superficial groom. Novice and intermediate stuff (except Chute, which was boilerplate from the getgo) was still skiing decently by early afternoon.

The summit quad was only a few chair wait for the first hour or so, then the lines started to grow. The Mountain Top Triple opened at 10, which took some pressure off. However the Wilderness Peak Quad went down (diesel back up to unload), resulting in longer lines. I clocked the Mountain Top Triple at 5 minutes in the morning. However, lines continued to grow at 12:30/1, to the point which the Summit Quad was backed up beyond the corrals and the Mountain Top Triple line was almost touching it. I called it a day at that point (I remember the old days when a 2 minute line was considered busy).

Despite the lift lines, the trails were never busy, as there has always been a good lift to trail capacity ratio at the B-East.

Mostly cloudy morning gave way to a partly sunny afternoon, with temperatures rising from the teens to the 40s.
