Comments CommentsIt was either excellent packed powder or boilerplate ice at Catamount today, with no in-between whatsoever. Most stuff on the smaller peak and from mid-mountain down was soft packed powder that had definitely benefitted from the cold, while things were extremely icy on Glade, Upper Alley Cat, and Upper Sidewinder. They BADLY need to open up Lookout - there's a lot of traffic going down Upper Sidewinder and that trail was scraped off fast. Once you got below where Chute split off, things were better - Shawenon and Lower Sidewinder were both good.

The parking lot was completely full when we got there, although it was a late start - rolled in around 10:30. We were directed up the hill to a smaller lot between the main one and tubing hill, where a "shuttle" (dune buggy) drove us down to the main lodge. There were large lines for the Ridge Quad, among the worst I've seen this season. I mostly avoided it in the morning, until they finally opened up a singles line around 1 PM. Line management was non-existent for the most part. I witnessed 7 chairs in a row with 2 or 3 people on them. For about 20 minutes there was a guy matching up groups to fill chairs, then he disappeared and it was back to mayhem. Probably my biggest gripe of the day - only using 75% of capacity when there's huge lift lines is inexcusable. Meadows Triple had a smaller (3-5 minute) line, and Promenade/Catamount lifts were no more than 2-3 minutes for most of the day.

The fire alarms went off in the lodge right around 1, in the middle of lunch time. Apparently a sprinkler malfunction in the basement tripped the alarms in one lodge and then the other shortly thereafter. They were able to get people back inside after about a half hour and a visit from the local fire department.

Seems like they're really benefitting from the Indy Pass - at one point I was on a lift with a group of two and another single, all four of us being Indy passholders.

No snowmaking yet on the double blacks, and surprisingly Marty's Run hasn't opened yet. Seems like the recent cold snap was mostly used for resurfacing, with a couple openings (if I remember right, Shawenon and Catamount opened yesterday). Overall, I think Catamount's mostly gotten their act together after the lift op and snowmaking disaster that was last season. The glade triple appeared to be being inspected and was running very slowly at the end of the day, with a group of people walking around the base terminal.
