Comments CommentsWhat a storm!
We arrived at 8:30 and parked in lot 4. We had decided we would boot up in the lodge (bag check $10, different sized lockers for variable prices, and a free communal bag cubby mid level by the food court), and had our stuff together just in time to catch the free trolley. At least 6-8” had already fallen by the time we started skiing at 9, and the snow was fluff pockets of joy! WV did their traditional groom cycle for the powder day: greens all groomed, blues half groomed, diamonds ungroomed. Lines the first couple hours were tough, but the cheerful lift attendant (Brian) helped make quicker work of it by directing. They surprisingly died down just before lunch. We had even skied right onto the Green Peak chair! Sunnyside was running as well, so that was a nice way to access the trails on the southern side of the mountain.

Utter Abandon and Sel’s Choice had the most incredibly deep, soft snow at the end of the day. Tangent was excellent fun at the end of the day as well. Any ungroomed diamonds were the place to play after lunch. Oblivion was wonderful first runs, but quickly got packed down. Most other blue trails were the same, including Green Peak trails. Piano Man was left alone and that was fantastic! Wayne Wong Way WAS open. 99% opening rating comes from Lower Stillness being closed for daytime grooming, and potentially the top section of Pfosi’s Pfolly was roped but snow loaded so no one knew. I’m just not sure that’s the name of the trail it was on. A few rock ledges were visible on this complex too.

New six pack is good, but taking a superficial beating from guests already. Our first wait in line made us hit the High Country T-bar, which may have had some mechanical issues. We started and stopped quite a few times, and when we looked back a little later it wasn’t running (I think it started back up after lunch).

Lots of people braved the roads to take advantage of the snow. Travel to get there was painfully slow at times, and the circus was in full swing by the time we arrived. It was still snowing a little when we left at 4:00.
