Comments CommentsOpted for Wachusett on Sunday due to weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday. I figured it would get warmer on Sunday at Wachusett than at the northern NH areas, allowing the snow/ice to soften up more. Purchased a 4-hour session which starts when you first scan through the gate. I was able to get the deal that Wachusett has been running where you get 25% off a day ticket if you have a season pass at any other mountain. I skied from 10 AM - 2 PM. Started at the Polar Express. Smith Walton and 10’th mountain had been groomed before the snow set up so they were icy frozen corduroy. Conifer Connection was groomed later and had mostly loose frozen granular. Went over to the Minuteman lift to allow the sun to soften up the snow at the summit. Skied a few runs on Look Mom, Challenger, and Hancock. These trails were groomed later after the snow set up so the conditions were better to start out. Watched the pond skim contest for a while. Then headed back to the summit trails. Much softer conditions than earlier in the day. The head wall on Smith Walton remained icy all day but everything else softened up nicely. 10’th Mountain trail softened up from top to bottom so it was the ROTD. The mogul run on 10’th just started to soften up on my last run at 2 PM. All in all it was a good day. There is plenty of snow left on the main trails. Ropers road was closed but Balance Rock was still in good shape. Plenty of activity at the base area with the pond skim, music, and food on the outdoor deck. Closed M-W, reopening Thursday-Saturday.
