Comments CommentsI normally stay far, far away from Loon on weekends due to crowds, but figured this afternoon wouldn't be too busy (which ended up being the case). Every lift was ski-on or only a chair or two wait.

Conditions were not great due to the wet snowfall. Lots of Pemigewasset Paste (tm). Sticky, particularly on flats and areas that hadn't been heavily skied. I would guess last night's snow ranged from 2 inches (base) to 6 inches (upper half of the mountain). This afternoon featured some sprinkles down low and flurries up high.

Skied the new Timbertown complex for the first time. Pretty much everything open there except for Stinger (no snowmaking pipe). No idea why some of the new trails are classified as blue; some of the greens are steeper/more narrow, but nevertheless all of them seem to be green to me. Chairlift moves along at a good clip with the loading carpet. The base area currently consists of of a mudpit of a parking lot, portapotties, ticket kiosks, and a guest services window. Seems like there's the potential for this to be a much-needed beginner area for Loon if the facilities are developed.

Outside of Timbertown, most of the trails were open (main exceptions being Ripsaw (some poached tracks revealed bare spots), Triple Trouble, and Rolling Bear). I skied everything on South Peak (grabby in places and a few thin spots on each trail), but only made a few runs on the main mountain. Upper Walking Boss had been closed, but the new snow allowed it to reopen - thin cover with grass poking through. Can't imagine the mountain will make it deep into April with current snowpack and weather patterns, but I didn't feel like I was dodging rocks, so that's good!
