Glades GladesOk now I see where some steep angle glades are but I didn't partake. Saw peeps riding fast off below Psyched Out and up on Green Peak. I asked one dude whose group who just blasted out on to a bottom trail there how it was? All he said was "Great!" with a big smile. I gotta imagine quite a bit of snow blew into the woods.

Comments CommentsIce storm above Concord to the Canterbury area had I-93 down to lane for a while with a 1/2" of hard packed in one lane. Trees or branches down on the side of the road. But at Waterville 27-30" of soft powder in the last 24 hours. They were still plowing the parking lots when we arrived. We got the last spot in lot 7 which was only half plowed at that point. People were coming in and out of lots looking for spots and parking in crazy places. (On the way home there were still cars parked on the access road way below the last lot. Someone said the Cannon was sold out (IDK if that was true or not, they probably sold all their Indy passes for the day that's for sure). Despite all that it didn't seem all too crowded. We got seats in the lodge when we wanted, the trails weren't crowded and the lift lines moved along.
62 of 62 trails & trees open, 7 of 11 lifts, 19-28F, stiff wind in the morning, tapered off after lunch, bluebird sunny day, most green & a couple blues were groomed. Or maybe, just maybe one groomer run down one side. Big drifts around. There were a few wind scoured areas like up on the couple steep blacks off Green Peak but I didn't see any hard pack until late in the day at the bottom of some deep moguls. Some untracked was wind packed but not too hard to turn if you had some speed. The High Country area looked to be 2/3 groomed, I assume to preserve it or it blew off. That T-bar didn't open until afternoon. The express was spinning but didn't load until perhaps 9:15am or later. The Greenpeak triple hadn't moved and was covered in snow, so everyone was on the Valley Run Quad or waiting for the 6 pack. Northside, WC t-bar and the platter never ran. The ticket line was 2/3's the way out to the staircase. Because everyone seemed to be redeeming passes. The 1st lift queue was around 15 mins as we headed up the Green began to spin and the ticket line was out to the staircase. Then we took Sunnyside to the Schwendi area. Piles of deep powder everywhere. Too many choices... By noontime the lift lines weren't bad. Some nice packed powder off skier's right on Green Peak. A lot of people were evidently getting tired or what not because by 2pm it was pretty much ski on. I skied down and onto the 6 pack at 3pm and was alone. On the next run there was not a single person in the entire queue area.
They also were hosting the 2024 Freestyle National Championship on Lower's Bobby's run so there were some athletes that can really ski around. We rode up with one of the course worker volunteers (fathers) and got the lowdown on the season. You could see the event well from 2 of the chairs and I watched one of the finals from the Sunnyside base. Boy can these kids fly!!!
