Comments | Wow. The area was a ghost town today due to the weather and time of year, but nearly every peak was still open with good spring skiing. The rain stopped before opening and the sun came out after lunch. Every lift was ski-on and the base areas were abandoned, even at the usual busy times. Sunday River is so much more enjoyable when it's quiet and still open White Cap to Jordan. Of all the peaks, I think the top of Jordan was showing the most wear from the weather, but the trails were fine thereafter. Appreciate the new(?) bathrooms at the bottom of the lift. Igloo bar still open and neat to walk through. Oz wasn't running, but Tin Woodsman/Lost Princess (I don't know which is which) were open with firm bumps in the morning. The entrance headwall still has a good sized glacier covering the rocks. Aurora is closed for the season, but Northern Lights to Firestar were good. Merrill Hill was still open and a highlight, since the lightly used trails were still holding strips of corduroy into the afternoon. Good base depths still, but the Ridge Run runout is on its last legs. North Peak/South Ridge were fine, blah as usual. Spruce Peak is still in good shape. Barker/Locke have good coverage. Some massive whales still exist on Top Gun. Was able to ski Locke Line below Jungle Road for the first time (still enough natural with not too many objects). All of the White Cap lifts were running. Bump competition on White Heat was fun to watch from the chair. White Heat has good base and Shockwave is still buried and had perfect spring snow bumps this afternoon as the sun came out. Really nice day at Sunday River. |
