Comments | Today, I wrapped up my ski season with a day of spring skiing at Saddleback. Things started out pretty firm in the morning, but softened up into perfect spring conditions as the day wore on. The South Branch, Sandy, Rangeley, and Kennebago Quads were all open, along with most snowmaking terrain. Tight Line was one notable exception, it hadn't been groomed and they didn't open it until around 2:00. Even then, it only opened from Firefly, even with plenty of coverage from the top. Unfortunately, despite plenty of natural snow in some glades and on numerous trails, the only natural terrain they opened were sections of Peachy's Peril and Golden Smelt. Needless to say, there were plenty of people ducking ropes throughout the day, as that is where some of the best spring skiing was! Something seems to have changed, as even a couple years ago, Saddleback was a lot more liberal with the terrain that they left open. Regardless, it was a great way to end the ski season! |
