Comments CommentsSince last Sunday, some more terrain had opened, but other key terrain was closed due to race training. Conditions were good for the first couple hours of the day, but then increasingly scraped by lunchtime. Base depths improving, but still thin in places. A lot more skiers than last Sunday, but three more lifts spinning resulted in shorter lines.
South to north:
Tempest Quad was open, but only with Road Runner, so not much reason to ride it except as a transport lift. Snowmaking in progress on some additional trails off this lift, but not close. Snowmaking also in progress off Little White Cap Quad.
Locke Mountain Triple was pretty much useless today, thus had no line (most racers were avoiding it too). T2 and Jim's Whim were closed to the public for race training (even though Sunday River's snow report showed them as open). So, the only thing you could get off the top of this lift was Upper Sunday Punch, which is unfortunately a terrain park.
Barker Mountain Quad had the longest lines of the day, sometimes 5-10 minutes, but generally shorter, especially via the singles line.
Jungle Road was okay, but Ecstasy was a little choppy. Cascades was initially okay, but the lower half was very icy by lunchtime. Monday Mourning was closed to the public for race training (even though Sunday River's snow report showed it as open). Sunday Punch was okay, but there were some icy stretches due to increased traffic from the aforementioned trail closures. Right Stuff was fairly scratchy from the getgo and is in need of some snowmaking. Dirt and grass poking through in places below the steeps.
Lazy River was nice in the morning, but quickly getting choppy due to the hoopla around the Spruce Peak Triple opening (as it was one of only two ways to get to the lift, the other being Thataway).
Spruce Peak Triple opened to the public at 9 (big line for the opening, but then only a few chair wait for the rest of the day). Nice to ride a brand new, shiny lift. It's a fixed grip triple with a loading carpet, but it seems to be about the same ride time as the predecessor during its loading carpet days. Only Risky Business was open off this peak, so it was getting pretty beat up by lunch time. Snowmaking in progress on American Express.
Chondola didn't have much of a line. Only Escapade was open, which was fantastic at opening, but horrible after a couple of hours - 6 people per chair, only one trail open, thus scraped. Snowmaking starting between the Chondola and Spruce Peak Triple, so perhaps some more options in a few days.
Better best depths and some more acreage open off South Ridge Quad. Apart from the very top, conditions were pretty decent in this pod, even after lunch.
