Comments CommentsSaw a crowd loophole and took it: vacation weeknight (no school groups) with increasingly cold temperatures forecasted. As a result, there were no lift lines.

The snow report was misleading, as Oxbow Chute, Frannie's Folly, and Piece of Cake were all closed, despite being listed as open day and night on the day's report. No idea why the Chute or Frannie's Folly were closed, but it looks like they were building a park on Piece of Cake throughout the night.

Snowmaking was also a bit vexing, as there was a gun blowing near the bottom of the Polar Express and I had the misfortune of having the lift stop for a minute while I was positioned in the gun's spray. Not particularly enjoyable at 0 degrees. Lower Smith Walton, Look Ma, and Ralph's Run all had snowmaking in progress, making for cold, wet runs in the already chilly temperatures.

Both trails off the beginner quad had decent conditions.

From the summit, Conifer Connection and 10th Mountain had lots of boiler plate. The evening groom was superficial (tiller down but blade up), so the solid frozen granular remained. Upper Smith Walton was better than expected with loose granular, but lower was tough to navigate with the snowmaking and occasional patch of sticky snow. For whatever reason, the crossover from lower Smith to lower 10th was roped, even though terrain on both sides of the rope was open, so one was forced to go into the active snowmaking.

Vickery Bowl trails were both closed.

Minuteman pod was better than the summit pod with less boilerplate, though there were some dark spots to navigate due to lights being out.
