Comments CommentsGreat first visit to Sunday River to start the season! The conditions were better than I was expecting given the rain on Saturday. The snow was mainly frozen granular over hardpack or ice. There was some loose granular on edges of trails and dust-on-crust on trails with snowmaking. Most trails had good base depth but not all were wall-to-wall.

Snowmaking was in progress on Monday Mourning as well as various trails in the South Ridge and White Cap Quad areas. Race training was taking place on T2 so the only options from Locke Mountain were Upper Sunday Punch to either Lower Sunday Punch or Cascades (Jim's Whim had snow coverage but was closed because it feeds into T2).

The Chondola, Barker Mountain Express and Spruce Peak Triple started on wind hold but Barker started running an hour or two after opening. Spruce Peak opened at around noon and the Chondola shortly after that.

Lines were about a minute or two in the singles lines at South Ridge Express and Barker Mountain Express but all lifts were pretty much ski-on in the afternoon. I was able to cover most of the open terrain except for Jungle Road, Ecstasy, and Middle Sunday Punch.

The skies were clear and the views were great. I particularly liked the views from Spruce Peak, as well as the uncrowded, relatively fast triple chair.
