Comments CommentsAfter hearing that Cannon was closed for wind all day yesterday and had received several inches of fresh snow, a friend and I decided to check it out today hoping for good conditions. It turned out to be decent skiing but not the powder day we had hoped for. Only groomed snowmaking terrain was open, but most trails skied well with even the icier trails having some windblown snow piled up on one side or the other.

Off the summit, Tramway and Upper Cannon were decent, but Upper Ravine and Taft Slalom were even better. Profile (open and groomed, contrary to the snow report) had a bit of ice at the top. On mid-mountain, Extension and Middle Ravine seemed to be the best. Of the Front Five, only Zoomer, Rocket and Gary’s were open but all three skied great with much less ice than I’m used to. At Mittersill, Taft Training Slope and Baron’s Run were good – nice fast groomers with hardly anyone on them.

Unfortunately, visibility was quite poor on most of the mountain due to freezing fog. It snowed lightly for most of the day and there was no wind. Temperatures were in the teens at the summit and upper 20s/low 30s at the base.

All chairlifts were running, with no line most of the time. I observed that several trails such as Turnpike and Parkway that usually get snowmaking appear not to have received any this year. Even though the conditions weren’t what we hoped for, my friend and I agreed it was still a great day. Hoping my favorite NH mountain gets at least a bit more snow before the season is over!
