Glades GladesAll open, snow was of course firm with some boilerplate in spots. Coverage was generally very good with minimal rocks/bare spots. Timbuktu was probably the best one I skied today.
Moguls MogulsMoguls were firm/icy especially in the troughs, but even the steeper bump runs were very skiable. "Type 2 Fun" is how I'd describe them.

Comments CommentsWhile conditions were very "New England" today due to the recent thaw-freeze, it was still a more than decent day at Jay Peak. The fact that the thaw did not drastically reduce their open terrain really speaks to how deep their snowpack is. Groomed trails were good in the morning with nice loose granular conditions, especially on some trails like Northway that got a bit softened by the sun. Jet was nice and fast in the morning, while Green Mountain Boys, JFK and Vermonter were getting quite skied-off by the afternoon. They groomed JFK and Hotshot Derick last night which I think was a good call to spread out skier traffic from the main routes. Ungroomed terrain was firm "dust on crust" skiing with occasional blue ice (and rocks on the steeps), but as mentioned I still think the snowpack is decent for this time of year.

Lift lines were reasonable for a Jay Peak weekend, with no more than 5 or so minutes for any chairlift and a 25-35 minute wait for the tram. Beautiful bluebird skies in the morning gave way to a cloudy afternoon with a snow flurry starting right at closing. After taking the tram in morning I did the short hike to the true summit, which was well worth it for the long views. After walking back to the main summit area, I clicked into my skis and headed down Face Chutes for the first time - a hairy run for sure especially with these conditions, but I made it down in one piece.

Temperatures were in the upper teens to low 20s and there was minimal wind. All lifts ran although Taxi was closed for half an hour or so around midday for some mechanical issue. Overall I thought it was a good day for this point in the season.
