| Comments | After missing out April I got in one last ski day at Black Mountain. Despite being my last day it was also a day of firsts - first time skiing in May and first time at Black. The parking lot was full and the trail got crowded at times, but neither chairlift had any line during the three hours that I was skiing. The mountain is down to one top-to-bottom route: Upper Maple Slalom to Chute to Middle/Lower Maple Slalom. The top pitch of Upper Maple Slalom is getting very thin with brown snow and loose rocks so the summit will likely be done after this weekend. Chute skied pretty well, and had a small slalom course on skier’s right set up for a couple of hours. The main pitch on Maple Slalom proper had some small thin spots, but there’s still plenty of snow on Lower Maple Slalom and at the base area between the lifts. Saw a good number of people on snow blades, as well as uphill travellers. Employees were friendly and confirmed that they will be operating in some capacity next weekend. Very comfortable temperatures in the low 50s with no wind; it started sunny but got cloudy and started to rain just as I left. Overall a great wrap up to my season and awesome to witness this ski area rebounding after being near closure. | |
